Rev. Hurmon E. Hamilton, Jr. was born in San Francisco, California and raised in Coushatta, Louisiana. He attended Grambling State University (GSU) where he was elected as Student Body President, and became the first Student Body President from GSU to be elected to the Louisiana Board of State Colleges and Universities. In 1987, he graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy and History. On this occasion, he became the first GSU student to be invited to bring the Commencement Address for his graduating class. In 1990, Rev. Hamilton graduated with a Masters of Divinity Degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary. From 1990 to 1994, he served as Pastor of the Faith Presbyterian Church USA, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. During this time, he also served as an Adjunct Professor in History, Philosophy and Western Humanities at the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff. Rev. Hurmon Hamilton has served as the Senior Pastor of Roxbury Presbyterian Church USA (RPC), in Boston, Massachusetts since May 1994. In 1996, he became the founding leader of the Roxbury Presbyterian Church Social Impact Center, Inc. and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board. Through this center, RPC seeks to transform the power of the Christian faith into a tool for social transformation through educational, technological and counseling programs aimed at strengthening families. Since 1995, Rev. Hamilton has served as an Executive Board Member for the The Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston (BMA), with specific responsibilities for coordinating The Spiritual Life Committee. In 1998, he became one of the founding leaders of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO), and in 2004 was elected as its President. GBIO currently has more than 50,000 members with 65 congregations from both Christian and Jewish faith communities. It has raised millions of dollars to build affordable housing, and has successfully and regularly organized its broad grassroots constituency across race, faith, geographical and political lines to become an effective instrument of power in Massachusetts on issues ranging from education to Health Care reform and its implementation. Rev. Hamilton says that his life is a testimony to the fact that faith in Jesus makes a difference and enables you to make a difference. By the Grace of God, Rev. Hurmon E. Hamilton, Jr.'s life has been transformed from that of a scarred, teased child, stuck in Special Education, rejected by playmates, to a life that daily displays God's Amazing Love and Awesome Power. Since 1986, Rev. Hamilton has been married to Dr. Rhonda Hamilton (M.D.) of San Francisco, CA., and is the proud and loving father of two children -Jonathan H. Hamilton and Lauren R. Hamilton.
